Meet Scholarship Winners

Amos Abdulai, 1st Place Winner

Global Scholar from Ghana Committed to Innovation, Leadership, and Legacy-Building at Livingstone College.

Amos Abdulai is a freshman Computer and Information Sciences major at Livingstone College and an international student from Ghana. With a GPA of 3.96, he has distinguished himself as a disciplined scholar, student leader, and community-focused changemaker.

Amos has held several impactful leadership roles, including Electoral Commissioner for the Old Students of Opoku Ware School Global Association, where he helped design and implement the organization’s first digital election system. He also served as President of the Green Africa Youth Organization Eco-Club, leading sustainability initiatives such as plastic recycling workshops and distributing organic fertilizers to farmers across 20 communities. Earlier, as Editor-in-Chief of his school’s newsletter, he directed a team of 15 writers and published monthly editions highlighting social and environmental issues.

His commitment to service is equally strong. Amos has “planted 200+ teak tree species in Kwamo” through Green Ghana Day and “tutored 50+ students in math and science, improving their grades by an average of 15%” at Station Basic School. At Livingstone College, he contributes to sustainability efforts through hands-on work in the campus greenhouse.

Mariah Brewer, 2nd Place Winner

Aspiring Nurse Committed to Growth, Purpose, and Empowering her community.

Mariah Chantel Brewer is a senior at Campbell High School with a passion for Nursing and a deep commitment to personal growth, service, and leadership. She is driven by the desire to become a confident, educated, and compassionate Black woman who uplifts others through her work and example.

Mariah is actively involved in her community, volunteering at Shaw Temple, where she “helped package gifts for new church members” as part of her service. She also works at Great American Cookie, gaining hands-on experience in customer service, teamwork, and responsibility through duties such as “baking cookies and cakes…handling the cash register, and cleaning the front and back of the house.”

Her decision to pursue higher education at an HBCU is rooted in her belief in the power of resilience, cultural pride, and academic support. In her essay, she writes that Livingstone College represents “a space where my purpose, identity, and ambition can fully thrive,” and a place where she can grow into a leader who advocates not only for herself but for others.

Mariah is determined to build a future where her identity is respected, her growth is nurtured, and her goals are taken seriously. She hopes to make her family and ancestors proud as she continues the path they paved for her.

Francis Yeboah Adom, 3rd Place Winner

From Ghana to Livingstone College: Building Global Solutions Through Technology and Service.

Francis Yeboah Adom is a freshman Computer Science major at Livingstone College, originally from Ghana. He chose Livingstone for its strong academic support, close faculty mentorship, and commitment to developing leaders who serve their communities.

Francis is a Presidential Scholar and an active student leader, serving as Vice President of the Young People’s Alliance and participating in service initiatives focused on sustainability, youth education, and environmental restoration. His passion for technology and research led him to a competitive research experience at the Texas Advanced Computing Center, where he worked on machine learning models to support early detection of vision loss.

Driven, community-minded, and inspired by Livingstone’s legacy as an HBCU, Francis is preparing for a future in technology and research where he hopes to create solutions that improve lives and strengthen communities.
